The new gig

So now I’ve finally started a new gig/job/whatever you want to call it. It’s a whole new experience no doubt. This is a much larger company and a lot more is done. It is very busy and fast paced.

It’s been a month now. My first week was super slow and boring, but wow that changed immediately! The second week, people started learning that I was there, that I’d be able to work with them, help them in their projects, etc.. and the craziness started. Pretty soon a lot of people knew my name and wanted to find out where I was. Now they were showing up at my desk every day; calling me on the phone, and emailing me like crazy. HELP ME WITH THIS! HELP! I NEED YOU TO HELP WITH THIS; NEED YOUR HELP; etc…And so the battle began for me to quickly learn how to adjust myself to the flow of work which is more like a flood lol. At first I couldn’t even handle the emails, there were so many, too many of them. People hitting the ‘Reply all’ when referring to any of the projects I was working on, and me trying hard to keep up with the conversations. It got to the point where I finally was able to start getting organized and even scheduling my own time so that I’d be able to do everything. It really didn’t take me long to adjust to this quick pace. I never had to schedule my time before, it is something new but it helps a lot.

There are over 200 people in my company. So, needless to say it’s hard to meet people and to remember their names. On top of that, finding out where they sit. Also, a lot of people use razor scooters to move around because of how large the office is. I sit in a large cubicle with another person. It’s funny to see people walking by versus the ones that fly by on their scooters. My cube mate is very nice and very talented, and I’d say a workaholic as well because every day she works after hours and sometimes even weekends. I would do that if it was necessary of course, but I wouldn’t want it to become a routine for me. Work should never take over your free time, even if you love your job (which I do).

The kind of work I am doing now, will be another topic because it seems I will be doing all kinds of things lol. But I definitely am enjoying this new experience. ;)
